Cooperation of Law-enforcement Agencies of Belarus and Lithuania

The chiefs of the criminal police of the Ministry of Interior of Belarus and the police of Lithuania gathered in Grodno on 11-12 January 2007 to lay down cooperation prospects for the coming year. The meeting focused on cooperation in the fight against organized crime, illegal drug turnover, trafficking in people, economic and computer crimes and as well as tracing people who are on the criminal wanted list. Belarusian delegation was composed of senior Ministerial officials form the Ministry Interior while a Lithuania delegation included police general commissar Vitautas Grigaravichius, chief of the crime police bureau Algirdas Matonis and other officials. Both agencies have established effective cooperation as back as on 20 October 1992 when the Agreement on legal assistance and relations in civil, family and criminal cases was signed. Since then a number of joint operation have been successfully carried out such as combating trafficking in human beings, combating in smuggling of psychotropic substances.
