| 23.01.2007 On 24 January 2007 Latvian Border Guards will be organising the Joint working group between Latvia and Russia on illegal migration for the first time in Riga. It will be headed by Mr. Dabolins, head of the Latvian Border Gurads and Mr. Ledenev, Deputy Director of Russian Federal Migration service. Latvia is represented by 9 officials from Ministry of Interior, Border Guards, security and state police, migration office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Russia is represented by 7 persons from Migration service, Security service, MFA and MoI. The first issue to be discussed is the fight against illegal migration and follow-up recommendations are to be prepared. The joint working group aims at improving the coordination between the two countries, followed by a signature of a protocol on joint fight against illegal migration in June 2006.
